May 17, 2012 · However, on a Russian SKS the rifle markings would be on the top cover. It looks like the top cover is blank, or void of markings. My guess is that it is infact a russian SKS that has been recently imported as a refinished surplus rifle, much like the recent nagants, but the top cover has been replaced with a non Russian top cover. Hope this helps. I've read several differing accounts but from what I understand. 1) Sino-Soviet guns had a Tula marking and a low serial number (No factory stamping) 2) 1956- Early 1957 (Ghost Guns) Were seen as the first true Chinese SKS. Proof marks mostly. I’ve been meaning to take the time to learn more on them but the 3 (or maybe 4) digit number in the barrel is the barrel’s serial number. From what I’ve seen barrels aren’t serialized with the receivers but I could have only seen replacements too. If anyone has a good resource I’d love to see it

In my opinion, in relation to Soviet SKS rifles, there are really 3 main categories... "All Original" - All matching parts, no forced electro-penciling, no refurb marks on weapon or stock. Just like in the 50's. "Refurbished" - Matching parts, either naturally or electro-penciled, reburb marks on weapon/stock, no aftermarket accessories.May 5, 2020 ... The bolt is bright and has not been blued, the rest of the gun including the bayonet is blued.
