Np205 transfer case fluid
Hi all, 1980 GMC K15 with SM465 trans and NP205 transfer case. Trans and transfer case work fine, but when I get to 40 mph and higher the drivetrain sounds like it's rattling and shaking apart. I've never pushed it more than 60 mph as a result. Transfer case shifter also rattles like hell. it's not as bad when I'm in 4H (much worse when in 2H).Install the case yoke, oil seal, output shaft yoke washer and shaft nut on the front or rear output shafts. Tighten the nut to 203-244 Nm (150-180 lb-ft) front; 163-203 Nm (120-150 lb-ft) rear. Connect the front or rear driveshaft to the transfer case output shaft case yoke. If you look in chiltons they say. Dana 21- 50w motor oil. np203: below 32f, 30w motor oil, above 32f, 50 w motor oil. np205: 76-77 50 w motor oil, 78 and later sae 90w gear oil.

In the 76 service manual which can be found in the tech section, on page 7M-3 (page 203) 3 or 4 speed manual transmission should have the 205, the automatic transmission should have the 203. Unfortunately this manual does not have the lubrication for transfer cases, it say's to see the "truck ...Yes, Duncan, there is an intermediate housing between the two that separates the tcase from the transmission. Probably be a job for a mechanic, since I don't have the necessary tools. I think the lens of time is required to differentiate between the real milestones, and the detours along the way.
