You can dual wield finesse light weapons and dual wield hand crossbows which make them very good at melee and range while having very good AC. The problem is you kinda want 3 levels of rogue / thief to get a extra bonus action for your offhand.Finesse is automatically applied when the weapon is used in two hands, and removed if a shield or off-hand weapon is equipped. It's also compatible with the Dual Wielder feat: If the longsword itself is the off-hand it will not apply Finesse here, either.
